Why I Started Exposing Special Ed

Schools hide the truth.
Parents feel it.
Children live it.
For years, I have watched special education move further away from what our kids actually need. Programs quietly disappeared. Services were denied or delayed. Placements were chosen based on staffing shortages, not student needs. And behind closed classroom doors, children with significant disabilities were left struggling without support — while schools claimed everything was “inclusive.”
I created Exposing Special Ed because parents deserve to know what is really happening inside the system that’s supposed to protect their children.
No sugar-coating.
No district spin.
Just the truth — and tools to help you fight back.
What I’ve Seen
In my time working in schools, and in my experiences with children I’ve known personally, I’ve seen students across every level of disability and support need — children who:
- were placed in general education despite functioning years below grade level
- had life-skills classrooms taken away with no alternative
- were sent home with “perfect” assignments they clearly didn’t complete
- didn’t receive toileting help, feeding support, or basic care
- were denied services they were legally entitled to
- were placed in programs simply because “that’s all the district offers now”
The public never sees these realities.
Parents often find out too late.
And districts count on that.

My Mission

Exposing Special Ed exists for one purpose:
to shine a light into the parts of the education system that families are never supposed to see.
Here, you’ll find:
✔ The truth about what’s happening behind closed doors
✔ Clear explanations of your child’s rights
✔ Scripts for IEP meetings
✔ Letters you can send to your school
✔ How to recognize illegal practices
✔ Real examples of what districts get away with
✔ Tools to advocate effectively — even if you’re overwhelmed
I want you to feel informed, equipped, and empowered — not intimidated, dismissed, or gaslit.
Why This Matters
Every child deserves a safe, appropriate, legally compliant education.
Every parent deserves transparency.
Every teacher deserves support.
Every IEP team should tell the truth — even when it’s inconvenient.
But that is not the reality today.
So I’m opening the door.
Pulling up the blinds.
And letting parents see what’s really happening inside.

You’re Not Alone

If you’ve ever felt:
- ignored
- confused
- lied to
- overwhelmed
- like something “just isn’t right”
- or like you’re the only one fighting for your child
You are not alone.
This site is for you.
Your voice matters.
Your child matters.
And you don’t have to navigate this broken system in the dark.
Welcome to Exposing Special Ed.
Schools hide the truth.
We don’t.
